Winter Traffic Issues when accessing or departing from Alpe d'Huez, Les 2 Alpes and Vaujany areas

1. Traffic direction: from airports to the ski resorts

Traffic congestion can affect access to Alpe d'Huez, Les 2 Alpes and Vaujany during the winter season (end of December to end of March), particularly on Saturdays.

The main access route from Grenoble and the surrounding airports towards the Oisans ski resorts is via Vizille and the D1091. Traffic congestion on this route can significantly affect transfer times.

On Saturdays, traffic issues usually occur between approximately 16:00 and 18:00 on the D1091 between Vizille and the Oisans area/access roads to Alpe d'Huez and Les 2 Alpes.

Depending on traffic conditions, this can increase travel time by approximately 1 to 2 hours.

2. Traffic direction (Reverse): from the ski resorts to airports

Return transfers from Alpe d'Huez, Les 2 Alpes and Vaujany can also be affected by significant Saturday traffic during the winter season. Traffic issues usually occur between approximately 07:30 and 15:00 on the D1091 between the Oisans area and Vizille.

Depending on traffic conditions, this can increase travel time by approximately 1 to 3 hours.

If you are travelling from Alpe d'Huez, Les 2 Alpes or Vaujany to an airport on a Saturday during the winter season, we recommend arranging an early pickup, preferably before 07:30, or, where your flight schedule allows, choosing an afternoon pickup after 15:00. This can reduce the risk of being caught in the Saturday morning and early-afternoon traffic congestion and provide a more predictable journey time.
