Whether you have booked a ski in ski out apartment high on the mountain or a traditional chalet in one of the lower villages, your driver will meet you at arrivals at Chambery Airport and bring you straight to your door. From Chambery Airport your driver joins the A43 and A430 motorways towards Albertville, then follows the N90 up the Tarentaise valley towards Aime. From Aime the road climbs the mountain on the D220, winding up through the La Plagne villages all the way to the higher altitude resorts.

If La Plagne is your final destination, Chambery is an excellent airport choice. It is the nearest airport to the resort, with a shorter road distance and transfer time than Geneva, Lyon or Grenoble for most La Plagne villages. Typical transfer times from Chambery are around 2 hours, compared with approximately 2 hours 30 minutes or more from Geneva.
Because the drive is shorter, this route works particularly well for families with younger children, long weekend trips or anyone who wants to maximise time on the slopes. Less time on the motorway also means a bit more flexibility for later arrivals or earlier departures in mid season.
The one trade off is that Chambery has a more limited winter flight schedule than the bigger hubs, with many services concentrated on weekends. La Plagne is one of France’s classic big ski domains, sitting between roughly 1250 metres and 3250 metres in the Tarentaise valley. It offers around 225 kilometres of local pistes, and as part of the Paradiski area it links with Les Arcs and Peisey Vallandry to create a combined 425 kilometres of runs, with around 70 percent of the terrain above 2000 metres.
The different La Plagne villages cater for a wide mix of skiers and snowboarders. You will find long, confidence building blue and red runs, designated beginner zones, tree lined slopes lower down the mountain and access to glacier skiing and more challenging terrain higher up. It is a particularly popular choice for families and mixed ability groups who want snow sure conditions, modern lift infrastructure and plenty of ski in ski out accommodation.
A short transfer from Chambery means you can settle into your accommodation, collect your ski passes and still have time for a walk around the village or even a quick first run, depending on your arrival time and the time of year.
